Did you know crooked teeth cause general health problems?
If you thought crooked teeth were purely a cosmetic issue: think again. Crooked teeth can lead to further oral and general health problems. For instance, crooked teeth can make it more difficult to brush and floss your teeth which can result in problems such as gum disease and decay. If left untreated both decay and gum disease can cause tooth loss.
Straight teeth are easier to clean and are better for your jaw: this is because your bite is designed with straight teeth in mind: so when your teeth are crooked this throws off your bite and can cause headaches, shoulder and neck pain.
Straightening your teeth has never been easier
With modern-day technology straightening your teeth is no longer the ordeal it once was. What this means for you is you are able to straighten your teeth without adversely impacting your life.
One of the things which put people off having braces was lengthy treatment time: and having metal braces bonded to their teeth for up to 2 years. However, it must be said that metal braces work. In fact, for severe bite problems sometimes metal braces are the only way.
But when metal braces aren’t the only option, Invisalign is an excellent option.
Straight teeth with Invisalign
Invisalign involves no metal: and indeed, no material is bonded to your teeth, there are no wires and no bands. An advantage of Invisalign over metal braces is—aside from no metal bonded to your teeth, no wires or brackets, no creams to prevent the wires and brackets causing ulcers— Invisalign is removable.
These clear aligners can be removed when you eat, drink and during social events. As long as you wear the Invisalign aligners as often as your Coast Dental dentist prescribes (often between 20 and 22 hours a day): the treatment will work.
If you don’t wear the aligners as prescribed this can result in one of two things:
- The treatment will not achieve the result discussed at the beginning of treatment
- It will take longer to achieve the desired outcome.
What to consider when considering Invisalign
Invisalign is a great lifestyle choice for straightening your teeth. The removable aligners mean you aren’t required to change your diet: you can continue to brush and floss your teeth as per usual. What this means is that the tan lines teeth can get from metal braces does not happen. It also means you don’t have to go on a soft-food diet for the first few weeks of treatment.
Invisalign has, as has been demonstrated, a range of advantages and benefits. The biggest advantage is that you can straighten your teeth discreetly.
There is even an option for teenagers. This option has compliance indicators to help teenagers know how long each day they need to wear their aligners for. And we cannot stress the importance of compliance enough. With metal braces, you don’t have a choice: the brackets are bonded to your teeth. Invisalign can be taken out and so the success of the treatment hinges on how long you wear the aligners each day.
