Regular check-ups can prevent serious health issues

At our Christies Beach dental practice in south Adelaide we offer a range of preventive treatments to help you maintain your oral health. As a family-friendly dental practice we are committed to helping our patients maintain their natural teeth for life.

Coast Dental offers a range of preventive
dental treatments to help patients:

Regular check-ups can be the difference between needing a filling and requiring root canal therapy. Or the difference between an onlay and a dental crown. The best thing for your oral health is to have your natural teeth for as long as possible.

Your should visit Coast Dental at least twice a year

To ensure you maintain optimal oral health we recommend you visit our Christies Beach dental practice for your six monthly check-up so we can assess your oral health. During this appointment we will scale and clean your teeth to remove the build-up of plaque and tartar. This can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease; we also check your gums and soft tissue for signs of oral cancer.

Oral Hygiene

For your oral hygiene it is important you brush and floss your teeth daily. You need to brush your teeth twice a day: preferably once after breakfast and once before bed. It is also important you floss before bed to ensure you prevent the build-up of decay while you sleep.

When you sleep your mouth produces less saliva which means you teeth have less protection against decay causing bacteria

This is why putting a baby to bed with a juice or milk bottle is a bad idea: even if your baby’s teeth have yet to come through (erupt) the sugar can still damage the gums and therefore the development of their teeth.

Your first visit to Coast Dental

During your initial consultation at our south Adelaide dental practice we will ask you to fill out a medical form. This helps to inform the decisions we make as far as how we proceed with any treatment you may require. For instance certain allergies and medications would prohibit us from providing you with certain sedation options.

At your first visit you will also be able to address any dental concerns you may have and ask all your dental-related questions. X-rays of your teeth and bite will be taken and a full assessment of your oral condition will be noted.

From there we are able to ascertain what the best course of action is for you.

Gums: Periodontal Health

One of the most prevalent diseases adults suffer is gum disease. Did you know that gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults?

It is also an easy disease to prevent. Gum disease has two stages: gingivitis and then periodontitis. Gingivitis is curable. Periodontitis is treatable but there is no way to cure it.

Signs and symptoms of gum disease:

The infection damages the tissue that connects the gum to the roots of the tooth and this is what—eventually—can lead to gum disease.
