Coast Dental in Christies Beach offer dental crowns and bridges
Look after your oral health with crowns and bridges
Dental crowns and bridges are effective restorative treatments. Dental crowns are porcelain caps that cover your damaged, decayed or weak tooth. A dental bridge can replace one or more missing teeth.
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns can be made from either porcelain, gold or a combination of the two. Gold is stronger than porcelain so a gold crown would be placed on your back teeth where the most pressure is applied. The composite layer on top is so the crown blends in with the rest of your teeth.
When you visit Coast Dental in south Adelaide we will assess your oral health and determine the best course of action for you. If you are getting an all porcelain dental crown we can use the CEREC machine to design and fabricate your dental crown all in one appointment. However, if you are getting a dental crown that is porcelain and gold this will take two appointments because it will need to be fabricated in a dental lab.
The advantage of porcelain restorations is that they are strong, stain resistant and match the colour and shade of your natural teeth. Dental crowns can last up to 10-15 years depending on how well you look after your oral health. The tooth protected by the dental crown is still susceptible to gum disease so it is important you attend regular dental check-ups.
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. These cannot be fabricated with the CEREC machine because they consist of two dental crowns (abutments) and a prosthetic tooth.
This treatment takes two appointments: the first appointment is where the mould is taken and sent off. The teeth on either side of the missing tooth are prepared for dental crowns and capped with temporaries. Then the next appointment is where the temporary crowns are removed and the bridge is fitted. Before the bridge is cemented into place, your Coast Dental dentist will make sure the bridge fits properly and that your bite is normal. When you are happy with the look and feel of your bridge it will be bonded into place.
Like a dental crown, a dental bridge can last 10-15 years if looked after properly.
