A clear alternative to fixed braces

What is Invisalign®?

coast dental brown

Invisalign® is a clear aligner system that straightens teeth using a series of custom-made, removable trays rather than fixed wires and brackets. Each aligner is worn for roughly one to two weeks before you move on to the next in the sequence, with every tray designed to move your teeth a small, planned amount.

They’re made from smooth medical-grade plastic and sit closely over your teeth, most people won’t notice you’re wearing them. You simply take them out to eat, drink anything other than water and brush and floss, then put them back in.

Could Invisalign® Be Suitable for You?

Invisalign® is generally suitable for teens and adults with mild to moderate crowding, spacing issues or bite misalignments, and offers a discreet, removable alternative to metal braces. Clear aligners are often considered for:

More complex cases, such as significant jaw discrepancies or major tooth rotations, may be better suited to alternative treatment options. For Invisalign® treatment to be effective, you will need to wear your clear aligners for most of the day until the active movement phase is complete.

The only way to confirm suitability is through an individual assessment, which is the first step for anyone exploring Invisalign® in Adelaide.

What Dental Concerns Can Invisalign® Treat?

Crowded Teeth

Invisalign® can address mild to moderate crowding by creating planned space and guiding teeth into better alignment.

Gaps Between Teeth

Closing or reducing spacing where appropriate tooth movement is possible.

Overbite

We assess cases where the upper front teeth close too far over the lower teeth, which can contribute to wear over time.

Underbite

Our dentists evaluate whether the lower teeth sitting in front of the upper teeth can be corrected with Invisalign® or a combined approach.

Crossbite

We assess crossbite cases where the upper teeth close inside the lower teeth, to help reduce uneven wear.

Relapse After Braces

Invisalign® can often address mild to moderate relapse without the need to return to fixed braces.

Open Bite

Our team works with patients whose front teeth do not meet on closure to address the alignment concern.

Suitability for each concern depends on your individual case and is confirmed at consultation. Aligners generally need to be worn for most of the day throughout active treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about aligner wear, appointments, comfort and care.

Invisalign® is designed to be comfortable and most patients experience only minimal discomfort. You may notice mild pressure or tenderness when you move on to a new set of aligners. This is a normal sign of planned movement and generally settles within a few days.

Aligners are changed roughly every two weeks, moving on to the next stage in your planned sequence. Your dentist will confirm your specific schedule as part of your treatment plan.

Let us know as soon as possible. Depending on where you are in your treatment, we may have you move to the next set early or have a replacement made, so your progress isn’t disrupted for long.

Yes. As the aligners are removable, you can take them out for contact sports and use a mouthguard if needed, then place them back in afterwards.

Rinse your aligners each time you remove them and clean them with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water as part of your daily routine. Avoid hot water, as it can distort the plastic.

Your initial consultation, including your 3D scan, generally takes longer than the regular progress reviews that follow once treatment is underway. We’ll let you know what to expect at each visit.

Invisalign® can be suitable for some overbite cases, particularly where the movement required falls within a mild to moderate range. Your dentist will assess your bite at the consultation to determine whether Invisalign® or another approach is more appropriate.

Compliance is important to how well Invisalign® works. Wearing your aligners less than recommended can slow your progress or affect how closely your results match your original treatment plan, which is something your dentist will discuss with you before you begin.
